Burma-Myanmar: Thousands displaced by fighting between Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Burmese army in Bhamo district

Hostilities between Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Burma Army displaced over 2,000 civilians in Momauk Township, Kachin State.

“The numbers of IDPs (internally displaced persons) keeps increasing every day,” said an official from Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) Church in Momauk town, Bhamo District, where 700 villagers forced from their homes by the fighting took shelter at the church.

Burma-Myanmar: Military suffers heavy casualties in attacks by Kachin Independence Army (KIA) ethnic armed group

The Myanmar military has reportedly suffered heavy casualties following attacks launched by the ethnic armed group the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) on a military base and convoy in Kachin State on Thursday.

On the morning of April 15 the KIA attacked a Tatmadaw (Myanmar military) base in the area of Nam Byu in Tanai Township. The base had been captured by the Tatmadaw from the KIA in 2018. Immediately after the attack, two military fighter jets launched airstrikes in the area.

Burma-Myanmar: Shan State villagers flee fighting between fighters of Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) and those of Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA)

Over 1,000 locals in Namtu, northern Shan State have been displaced by fighting between the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).

The two Shan State-based ethnic armed groups have been fighting each other since March 29 over territorial disputes in Namtu.

At least 23 Indian security forces were killed in an ambush by Maoist militants in the central state of Chattisgarh, officials said on Sunday, reviving concerns around a decades-old insurgency that appeared to have been largely contained in recent years.

A large force of Indian security personnel had been carrying out a clearance operation in a densely forested area on the edges of the Bijapur district when they were ambushed by the insurgents on Saturday in a firefight that lasted four hours.

Burma-Myanmar: Kachin Independence Army (KIA) says more clashes likely despite military junta’s ceasefire announcement

Clashes are likely to continue in Kachin state even after the junta unilaterally announced a ceasefire on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has said.

The coup regime claimed it would cease all military operations from Thursday in order to hold negotiations with ethnic armed groups, but KIA information officer General Naw Bu said the Myanmar military had not stopped its activities in Kachin.
