A spokesman for the Khost province’s governor said the airstrikes targeted 10 sites, including near the provincial center, in the early hours of Wednesday. No casualties were reported.
Islamabad said the strikes were ordered in response to eight drone attacks launched from Afghan territory against Pakistan the day before, and after Pakistani troops prevented a cross-border infiltration attempt by militants based in Afghanistan.
Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid denied that Afghan forces had carried out any drone attacks on Pakistan.
Pakistan has long accused Afghanistan of harboring militants from Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and related groups. Islamabad claims the groups also receive support from Indian intelligence.
