Philippines: Troops clash with Abu Sayyaf’s Ajang Ajang faction suspected in Jolo bombing

Around 20 alleged members of the Abu Sayyaf’s Ajang Ajang faction clashed with troops at around 7:20 a.m. in Patikul, Sulu on Thursday.

According to a statement from the Western Mindanao Command, no government troops were hurt in the clash.

Burkina Faso: 14 dead in clashes near border with Mali

Gunmen killed four Burkina Faso soldiers and injured five others near the Malian border a day after 10 civilians died in a separate nearby attack, the army and security officials said.

Jihadist groups, already a security headache for neighbouring Mali and Niger, have rapidly spread into Burkina Faso’s remote north, killing soldiers and civilians in a spate of attacks.

Philippines: 4 members of the New People’s Army killed in Mindanao clashes

Four members of the New People’s Army were killed while a wounded rebel was captured following two separate skirmishes with army troopers in Cotabato and Iligan City on Sunday.

The first clash occurred when army soldiers surprised a group of heavily-armed NPAs reportedly extorting from villagers in Sitio Kalo Kali, Brgy Bagumbayan, Magpet in Cotabato at around 1 p.m.

Nigeria: Boko Haram jihadists attack 2 military bases in Borno state bordering with Cameroon

Boko Haram jihadists attacked two military bases in northeast Nigeria’s Borno state, near the border with Cameroon, injuring six soldiers, two military sources told AFP on Sunday.

The attacks were the latest against military targets in the region with security becoming a major campaign issue ahead of presidential and legislative elections next month.
