Discord between two rebel groups in a rebel-controlled town in Chin state of western Myanmar has turned into fierce fighting, forcing thousands of residents, including Christians, to flee their homes.
Clashes between the Mara Defense Force (MDF) and Chinland Defense Force–Mara (CDF-Mara) intensified in Thantlang township since Aug. 3, local sources confirmed.
Residents from six villages have fled to nearby forests, communities, and churches for safety as fighting between rebels continued as of Aug. 6.
Thantlang became almost deserted following deadly attacks by the Myanmar military after the February 2021 military coup.
